Creating Punishing One From Scratch
|
Like many other bounty hunters, Dengar modified an old U-shaped Corellian Jumpmaster
5000 into a modern vessel. The Punishing One seats two, with ample cargo space.
A small ion laser cannon is mounted in the cockpit, backed up by a quad laser
cannon with a targeting R2 unit at the rear.
Without any previous photographs or sketches to refer to, artist Joe Boulden
relied on detailed written descriptions, and the most essential element, his imagination.
He began by rendering three dimensional models as sketches (shown below). He explains
it in the brief interview . . .

"The never before seen ships, The Punishing One and Mist Hunter, required the
most work because I had to design them from scratch. There had never before been
a picture, or even a drawing of them, and my only references were vague descriptions
in the book 'Star Wars: Tales of The Bounty Hunters'."

Once Joe was content with the structure of the ship, he began to transform
it's shell with color, detail and character. After about 20 hours of labor and
48 hours of rendering, the ship is finally finished and ready to be transformed
into another Star Wars CCG card. A lot of detailed work for such a small image,
don't you think?
