HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EXPANSION SET FOR
THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ TRADING CARD GAME:
THE TWO TOWERS™
BATTLE OF HELM'S DEEP TO RELEASE IN STORES MARCH 5, 2003

VA, February 13, 2003)—With the recent theatrical release of New Line
Cinema's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers™, generating
more than $760 million worldwide at the box office thus far, fans of The
Lord of the Rings™ are more excited than ever about the trilogy.
On March 5, 2003 Decipher will bring the most anticipated battle of The
Two Towers™ to life with the next expansion set for The Lord
of the Rings™ Trading Card Game™, Battle of Helm's Deep.
Filled with striking new images from the film, this latest set is sure to
please both fans of the film and the trading card game alike.
Featuring the challenging gameplay that The Lord of the Rings TCG
is best known for, Battle of Helm's Deep pits good against evil with
all the weapons of war available. Players will be introduced to new strategies,
as well as new character cards – including Gimli and Legolas, as they
enter Helm's Deep, the ancient fortress of Rohan where the first major battle
of Middle-earth was waged. In addition, the new Gollum culture presents
the option of using Gollum/Sméagol as a minion, companion, or both
in the same deck.
"This expansion set truly captures the excitement of the Battle of Helm's
Deep," said Game Designer Tom Lischke. "Players will be able to exhibit
the strengths of Saruman's army of 10,000 Uruk-hai as they are sent into
battle alongside the warg riders from Isengard and come up against Théoden,
Aragorn, Legolas, Ent companions, and more."
This 128-card expansion set contains: 46 rare cards, six of which are
alternate-image versions found only in starter decks; 40 uncommon cards;
40 common cards; and two premium cards.
Battle of Helm's Deep will be available in the following product
configurations:
- 60-card Starter Decks: Starter decks will be available in two versions,
Legolas and Éowyn. Each deck – which only contains cards from
the Tower Block – has 3 alternate-image rare cards, 2 premium cards,
and a rulebook. MSRP: US $9.99
- Booster Packs: 11-card packs will include 1 rare plus a mixture of common
and uncommon cards. Foil cards will be found in approximately one out
of six booster packs. MSRP: US $3.29
As with all Lord of the Rings TCG cards, all cards in Battle
of Helm's Deep will receive a foil treatment in a parallel set.
The Lord of the Rings™ TCG: Battle of Helm's Deep set
continues the mission introduced with The Fellowship of the Ring, introducing
the top award-winning trading card game of 2001 and 2002. Players try to
win the game by: successfully and safely advancing the Ring-bearer to the
end of the adventure path; killing the opponent's Ring-bearer; or corrupting
the opponent's Ring-bearer.
