Ents Battle Saruman in Latest Expansion Set for
The Lord of the Rings™ Trading Card Game
Ents of Fangorn™ Available in Stores Worldwide

(Norfolk, VA – June 11, 2003) – Ents of Fangorn, the
third expansion set for the Tower block of The Lord of the Rings
Trading Card Game, is set to hit store shelves on July 2, 2003. Adding more
play options to existing strategies and cultures, this expansion also sets
up the open environment for the introduction of The Return of the King™
gameplay while adding powerful new alternatives for key Fellowship block
tactics.
"We are very excited about this expansion for the Tower block," said Decipher
Senior Game Designer Tom Lischke. "Not only is Ents of Fangorn a
great final set for the Tower block, but it also sets up what will be very
exciting new gameplay for The Lord of the Rings TCG when The Return of
the King is released later this year."
Players of The Lord of the Rings TCG will be captivated by the
Ents of Fangorn expansion, as the previously homebound Ents now become
implements of vengeance against their neighbor Saruman in Orthanc. Key elements
of this set include: new images from The Two Towers™ film; a
new character card for Elrond; a new Treebeard to lead the Ents into battle
against Isengard; Gate Trolls to patrol the Black Gate of Mordor; and Isengard
Orcs and Uruk-hai to assert a potent defense against the Ents. This expansion
also integrates with the Tower Draft Pack product, expanding the selection
of cards to its fullest potential.
Players will get a sneak peek at this latest set during pre-release tournaments
scheduled for the weekend of June 21-22, 2003. Approximately 250 retail
locations worldwide will participate in this exclusive pre-release tournament
series where prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. In addition, a
special Ents of Fangorn Pre-release Tournament card will be presented
to all competitors.
This 128-card expansion set contains: 46 rare cards, six of which are
alternate-image versions found only in starter decks; 40 uncommon cards;
40 common cards; and two premium cards.
Ents of Fangorn will be available in the following product configurations:
- 60-card Starter Decks: Starter decks will be available in two versions,
Faramir and the Witch-king. Each deck – which contains only cards
from the Tower Block – has 3 alternate-image rare cards, 2 premium
cards, and a rulebook. MSRP: US $9.99
- Booster Packs: 11-card packs will include 1 rare plus a mixture of common
and uncommon cards. Foil cards will be found in approximately one out
of six booster packs. MSRP: US $3.29
As with previous The Lord of the Rings TCG cards, all cards in
Ents of Fangorn will receive a foil treatment in a parallel set.
The Lord of the Rings™ TCG: Ents of Fangorn set continues
the mission introduced with The Fellowship of the Ring, which introduced
the top award-winning trading card game of 2001 and 2002. Players try to
win the game by: successfully and safely advancing the Ring-bearer to the
end of the adventure path; killing the opponent's Ring-bearer; or corrupting
the opponent's Ring-bearer.
Just in time for New Line Cinema's December 17, 2003 theatrical release
of the third and final installment, The Lord of the Rings: The Return
of the King, look for the new base set of The Lord of the Rings
TCG in November when The Return of the King releases in stores worldwide!
