Decipher's convention season begins in London...
GEN CON EUROPE
London, April 1821, 2003
Report: The End of an Era for Gen
Con in the U.K. 5/6/03
04/15/03
It hardly feels like a whole year since we laughed our heads off, gamed
our hearts out, and abused our overdraft facilities at Gen Con UK 2002...
because it's not! Gen Con is back early this year, re-vamped with a new
name, 24-hour gaming space, and more high-profile Decipher events than ever
before.
Top-level gamers can get their kicks at any of the four Level 2 events
on offer this year: Territorial Championships for The Lord of the Rings
TCG and Star Trek CCG, a Premier Series Qualifier for Rings and the
Trek equivalent, a Maiden Voyage tournament, too.
We're giving away a total of 18 Premier Points, 24 DGMA pins, 14 DGMA
binders, 3 byes for the World Championships and 4 byes for the European
Continental. And of course lots of foil cards, t-shirts, and booster packs
for every player.
Newer players may prefer to play with a smaller pool of cards, in which
case sign up for the Star Trek Second Edition sealed deck or Tower
Booster Draft events. The Tower Draft Pack has been purposefully designed
to provide all the necessary components for great sealed play (except for
the 9 Tower Block sites and a Tower Block Frodo, which you can prepare yourself
and bring to the game). If you haven't had a Tower Draft experience yet,
what are you waiting for?
If you want to play but don't know how to play our games yet, we'll have
a team of skilled Decipher Product Champions ready and waiting to teach
you the basics in 20 minutes. We're so confident you'll like The Lord
of the Rings TCG that, after you've learned to play, we'll give you
the choice of a free starter deck from our game or a booster pack from one
of our competitors absolutely no strings attached! From RPG character
generation to TCG deck construction, our experts will be on-hand to answer
your questions.
Collectors will appreciate several opportunities to complete their promo
card collections. Decipher will be selling a selection of its most popular
games at Gen Con, and you can earn one of seven different oversized cards
for every £15 spent with us.
Gen Con Europe is the last stop on my Black Rider Tour. Don't forget to
pick up your free Black Rider foil promo card (limit one per person)
all you have to do is say hello to me! My fellow Black Riders, Joeri Hoste
and Kendrick Summers, will also be on-site if you're collecting Black Rider
autographs this year.
Sunday's Tower Draft tournament will be a Black Rider Bounty Tournament,
which means players who succeed in winning games against me will share a
whole display of Two Towers boosters for their trouble. We'll have another
such tournament on Monday, subject to demand. We had so much fun last year
that we're going to attempt to regain the Decipher World Record for biggest
multi-player game on Saturday night! (Who needs sleep?) Sign up at the booth
to help make this attempt a successful one.
The full tournament schedule can be found at www.dgma.com,
though keep checking back at the Decipher booth during the show for additions
as we respond to the will of the people!
You can find travel information, discounted hotel deals, and the full
program of convention guests (including Decipher RPG artist George Vasilakos)
at www.genconuk.com.
Though you can see there's enough to do at the Decipher booth alone to justify
the convention's tag-line: "The Best Four Days In Gaming!"
See you at Easter!
