Tenth Anniversary Collection:
Borg Queen and Queen's Borg Cube
For the Tenth Anniversary Collection, when it came to creating a commander
for the Borg affiliation, there was really only one character we considered.
We had to do the Queen; it was only a matter of which version of her to
show. We opted for the original (Alice Krige) and the Borg cube from First
Contact.
With the two previous incarnations of the Queen providing effects for
your own Borg, we decided to make this new Queen affect personnel you take
from your opponent through "assimilation." This card's ability to make such
personnel unstoppable was on an event card during early Necessary Evil playtesting,
but was moved onto this incarnation of the Queen somewhere along the way.
For
the Queen's ship, we decided to give the Borg an ability that no other affiliation
in the game has the ability to start an engagement at a headquarters
mission. Your opponent will no longer be able to find a safe haven from
your aspirations to battle. This of course makes it that much easier to
take command of your opponent's personnel, which in turn makes it that much
easier to take advantage of this new Borg Queen's ability.
Of the commander-related cards in Necessary Evil, Standing Your Ground
is arguably the best for this pair. If you discard Standing Your Ground
instead of The Will of the Collective to start an engagement, you save counters
as you work to steal personnel away from your opponent.
Whatever your approach, enjoy these powerful new tools in the Borg arsenal.
