The Future Enterprise Returns!
by Kris Sonsteby
The
card voted #1 in the tenth anniversary poll of top 100 STCCG cards of all
time has now come full circle; from 1st Edition's foremost ultra-rare to
center piece of an underrated 2nd Edition deck archetype, the two-mission
win. Much like its 1E counterpart, the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Personal Flagship
comes equipped with hefty staffing requirements, huge range, and a cloaking
device. More important, however, is the special ability on this latest version
of everyone's favorite ship, which allows you to net an additional 5 to
10 points if you are solving a mission that requires either Honor or Leadership.
The Federation has a vast array of missions at their fingertips that require
these skills: 28 in all that require either Honor or Leadership, and 2 that
require both. While they are definitely not lacking mission options, the
Feds get another bonus from the current rulings. The most recent CR to date
states that you are not required to 'use' skills when solving to get a bonus;
only that the mission itself requires the skill in some fashion. Therefore,
if you ever find yourself in the uncomfortable position of not having enough
Honor or Leadership in your deck to use the D with the 3rd warp nacelle,
take a closer look at some of the modal missions in Call to Arms. You'll
quickly find that Evade Dominion Squadron, Extract Defector, Rescue Prisoners
of War and Study Rare Phenomenon all have alternate requirements that would
score you extra points in a pinch.
Combos:
U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Personal Flagship + Engage Cloak: Are you
sick and tired of your Feds getting blown up in your play area? If so, simply
add Engage Cloak to your current deck, hop on the flagship, and laugh at
your disgruntled Klingon opponent as they tirelessly try to stay on your
tail.
U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Personal Flagship + At What Cost?: If your
solving missions requiring Honor or Leadership, what better way to spending
them than with At What Cost? After your first mission solve and use of At
What Cost?, the ship has paid for itself.
U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Personal Flagship + Investigate Maquis Activity:
How does scoring 40 points on your third or fourth turn for having Integrity
over 27 sound to you?
U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Personal Flagship + Peaceful Contact + Salvage
Dominion Ship: If you are at home in the Gamma Quadrant, check out these
two missions with similar requirements that will net you 45 points each.
Just add your favorite round the corner strategy for an extra 10, and you
have a great two-mission win deck.
