Worlds Heats and Hot WARS Demos: Day One Wrapup
No sooner had the crowds surged through the doors than the demo tables
began to fill up. Though the volunteer corps did their share of .hack//ENEMY,
MegaMan, and Lord of the Rings TCG demos, the clear winner in the demo department
was WARS TCG.

Small wonder this was the first chance for would-be WARS players
to try out this new incarnation of the Star Wars CCG mechanic. And they
weren't disappointed; the reactions were overwhelmingly positive. It was
also the first chance anyone has had to see what the cards would look like.
Though the templates had been revealed earlier online, these cards had all
the blanks filled in game text, artwork, and all (albeit still "beta"
versions). Those who couldn't attend DecipherCon weren't left out in the
cold, either; the first card
image was posted on warstcg.com as part of Virtual DecipherCon.
Meanwhile, customers queued up at the Decipher Store. The hot items of
the day, according to convention coordinator Kevin Reitzel, were "DecipherCon
Convention Kits and .hack Isolation." Not unexpected, considering the
plethora of promos in the kits, and the pre-release status of Isolation
(which releases next Wednesday).

The tournament scene was just as busy. Beneath a huge WARS TCG banner featuring
an Earther soldier, players dived into multiple day one heats for Lord of
the Rings TCG and Star Trek CCG World Championships, plus a PSQ and a day
one Worlds heat for .hack//ENEMY TCG.

A special tournament in recognition of Star Trek CCG's tenth anniversary,
with two rounds of First Edition play followed by two rounds of Second Edition,
drew six players, including former National and World Champion David Bowling
and his oldest daughter, Eve. David took first place with dual Borg decks
and took home an uncut sheet of Blaze of Glory foils.

MegaMan TCG sealed and constructed tournaments, .hack//ENEMY isolation
pre-release booster draft, and LOTR Wide Open Format and Multi-Deck tournaments
filled out the day's agenda.
Although the exhibit hall closed at 6:00 PM, the tournaments would go on
much longer. Check out the results of the Worlds day one events on the message
board and DGMA.com.
