The Curtain Comes Down on DecipherCon: Day Four Wrapup
It was the final day of the show. Things were winding down... many attendees
were starting to leave, to go back to work or school... yet the day included
the most important tournament events of DecipherCon: the World Championship
finals for The Lord of the Rings TCG, Star Trek CCG, and .hack//ENEMY TCG.
On Saturday, single-elimination tournaments had pared each game's top players
down to two, the best of the best. And on Sunday, each pair met face-to-face
in a best 2-out-of-3-match final confrontation.
The finals took place on the elevated stage in the tournament hall, formerly
the judges' domain for the last three days. Each final was taped, with the
action on the table on view for spectators on a number of TVs spaced around
the area. The finals ranged from a lightning-fast three matches of .hack//ENEMY
to two lengthy Lord of the Rings matches.

By the end of the day, Decipher's TCGs had three new World Champions:
Emir Delic The Lord of the Rings TCG
Andrew Ehret Star Trek CCG
Adam Molnar .hack//ENEMY TCG
The top eight contenders in each game were awarded "glass" (acrylic)
trophies back after a long hiatus as well as cash and/or Decipher
dollar prizes.

Around the finals and award ceremonies, Gen Con and DecipherCon went on.
WARS demos on the booth, last-minute purchases at the Decipher Store, another
Michael Stackpole autograph session. And then, it was 4:00 PM and the announcement
came over the speakers: Gen Con was officially closed for another year.
DecipherCon 2004 was over.
A few hours later, the booth was as empty as when we began. The store was
dismantled and the pieces stored away in the shipping crates to await the
next con. Remaining store inventory was packed and immobilized on pallets.
The display walls came down, to be tucked into more shipping boxes. The
cherry-picker came to haul down the banners. And the curtain was drawn on
another DecipherCon.
