Reflecting on Reflections
So of course, you all want to know what's going to be in Reflections. OK,
not quite all there's always a contingent that wants to be surprised
(but not too much) and enjoys the speculation as much as the revelation.
And then there's me, your friendly contest writer who doesn't want to give
away too much, too early, so there's some grist for the contest mill. So
I'm going to try to give everyone a little something to chew on.
As you might expect for a retrospective product, Reflections 2.0 doesn't
introduce any new rules or mechanics. Instead, it works at bolstering some
of the affiliations or groups that don't see as much play (like the Maquis,
for example) and providing some incentives for shaking up your mission selections
and going to other quadrants. And it's a good excuse for making some cool-looking
foils as well as some of the characters you've been wanting to see, like
"Curzon" Odo and Vina. In fact, the one I've been waiting
for since the inception of Second Edition is finally making an appearance!
Some of you have gotten wind of the Reflections release card, which is a
non-foil promo version of that long-awaited (by me, at least) personnel
Major Rakal. I've seen the text spoiled on the message board, but
just in case you missed that, here's my alter ego at last:
[Rom] Cost: 2
Deanna Troi
Major Rakal
Betazoid/Human
[Cmd] Anthropology Telepathy
While this personnel is present with a [Rom] Dissident
personnel, she is attributes +1 and gains Intelligence,
Leadership, and Security.
STAR TREK
CCG
Reflections Release
Integrity 6 Cunning 5 Strength 4
0 P 25
The foil version has collector number 6 P 58, and the "STAR TREK CCG/Reflections
Release" text is replaced by this lore:
"How typical of the military to resort to brute force when
discretion is required."
With that out of the way, how about a few (drumroll) statistics?
OK, statistics are boring... but you speculative card list creators want
them, you know you do. First, the basic breakdown by card type:
- 13 Dilemmas (3 planet, 2 space, the rest dual)
- 19 Events
- 7 Interrupts
- 20 Personnel (3 female)
- 2 Ships
The personnel represent seven affiliations plus Non-aligned, and 11 species.
A few more numbers...
- Number of cards that show something burning: 5
- Number of cards depicting a sea of molten lava: 1
- Number of Pah-wraith cards: 2
- Number of Prophet cards: 0
- Number of intelligence agents if Major Rakal is with a [Rom] dissident:
4
- Number of odd couples depicted: 3
- Number of cards taken from the TNG episode Shades of Gray: 1
- Number of people in disguise: 2
- Number of cards picturing Jean-Luc Picard: 4
- Number of cards picturing Kira Nerys: 6
- Number of cards picturing T'Pol or Seven of Nine: 0
Needless to say, these stats are for the 61 new cards in Reflections. Later
this week I'll have a few numbers for you on the reprint foils. And daily
card posting should be starting in the next day or two. For now, don't forget
the most important number of all:
- Number of days till Reflections releases: 30
