Star Trek CCG Tenth Anniversary Contest #8:
The Many Faces of The Next Generation
December 8, 2004 CONTEST IS CLOSED
It's easy these days to forget that Star Trek CCG actually started
out as Star Trek: The Next Generation CCG. But the first three
sets were in fact all based on just that one series. Even the First Contact
expansion, which drew on a movie instead of a TV series, was still about
the Next Gen characters. This contest focuses on the seven main characters
("bridge crew") from that series: Picard, Riker, Data, Worf, Geordi,
Crusher, and Troi. To be more precise, it focuses on the actors who
played those characters, and all the personnel cards they appeared on.
Why that fine distinction? All seven of the bridge crew have appeared on
multiple personnel cards. Some of them are different versions of the character's
main persona; some are Alternate Universe versions; and others are impersonators,
Mirror Universe versions, or even holograms. In addition, some of the actors
portrayed completely different characters who got their own personnel cards.
For example, Brent Spiner played not only Data, but also Lore, among others.
Here are the guidelines for answering the questions. (Examples are taken
from Deep Space Nine.)
All questions include both First and Second Editions unless otherwise
specified.
All questions refer to all characters played by the seven "main"
Next Generation actors, including appearances they made in other Star
Trek series or movies, as long as that character has appeared on a
Star Trek CCG card. Example: If you were counting personnel cards for Quark/Armin Shimerman,
you would include not only all cards named Quark in both First and Second
Editions, but also Quark Son of Keldar, Lumba, Mr. Quark (Mirror version),
and the Ferengi Letek (from the Next Gen episode The Last Outpost).
All questions refer only to personnel cards. Non-personnel cards
don't count.
Preview, alternate image, oversized, and foiled versions of another
card do not count. Example: Quark Son of Keldar appeared as a white-border preview
in Dominion and as a black-border rare in Blaze of Glory. This counts
as only one card for Quark/Shimerman.
Different cards with the same name count as separate cards. Example: Miles O'Brien from the Fajo Collection and Miles O'Brien
from Blaze of Glory count as two cards for O'Brien/Colm Meany.
As before, we will first randomly select awinner and two runners-up
from those entries with all correct solutions. (If there are not three entries
with all ten answers correct, they will be randomly selected from the entries
with the most correct answers.) The first three places will receive the
following prizes:
1st place: A complete 18-card Necessary Evil foil subset, plus
a First Edition foil Kivas Fajo Collector. 2nd place: A complete 9-card Second Edition Premiere foil set,
with the Martok signed by actor J.G. Hertzler, plus a First Edition tournament
foil (random selection). 3rd place: 8 assorted foil cards: 2 from the Necessary Evil foil
subset, 2 from the Second Edition Premiere foil subset, 2 from First Edition
Reflections, and two First Edition tournament foils.
Fourth through tenth places will be randomly selected from ALL complete
(you must answer all ten questions) and valid entries received, regardless
of the correctness of the answers, to receive the following prizes:
4th-10th place: One Second Edition Premiere foil (random selection)
plus one First Edition tournament foil (random selection).
(First Edition tournament foils include foil versions of cards like Amanda
Rogers, Chula: The Dice, Patrol Neutral Zone, and others. Sorry, no choice
available we will select a random foil from our available stock.)
You have until Wednesday, December 8th at 5pm Eastern Time to submit
your winning entry. Good luck!
