Adapted to Service Us

by Will Hawkins

The Borg have always been feared for their ability to assimilate personnel. A Borg deck that assimilates can be difficult to stop if it gets a foothold in a game. However, as a Borg player, I have tried my hand at assimilation: while finding it fun, I saw that it was not quite tournament worthy. That has changed now with Reflections, and cards like Adapted to Service Us. Not only will your opponent have to worry about the personnel they play, but also their events. With this 1-cost event, the Borg can grab any event that has no cards stacked on it. All a Borg deck has to do is win an engagement or combat to activate Adapted to Service Us. With The Will of the Collective, Targeted for Assimilation, Borg Cutting Beam, and Adding to Our Perfection, the Borg have plenty of options on how to attack you.

So, if your opponent is about to use a Far-Seeing Eyes on you, just snatch it, and see how they like two cards removed from their deck. Maybe you don't have use for their events. Simply use a Defragmentation Drone to destroy the event and draw cards. Forget stocking dilemma-manipulation cards, just remember to say thank you when you move that Machinations, Stir Crazy, or Heightened Perception to your core. Don't forget to grab For the Cause when facing those Maquis decks. No more Running a Tight Ship for those matching commander decks. Try using them to lower the cost on Whisper in the Dark, Tsiolkovsky Infection, and Formal Hearing. After grabbing all your opponent's personnel and events, try using On Foreign Ground to blast them into the afterlife.

The possibilities will change with each deck you face, so be aware of each affiliation's strong events. Remember: when in doubt about what to do, assimilate, assimilate, assimilate!
