William
T. Riker, Wistful Admiral
by Will Hawkins
Another two-cost Riker. I know you are excited, but this Riker is not
like those that came before him. This Riker is older, wiser, more wistful,
and chock-full of keyword and icon goodness. He has a The Next Generation
(hereinafter TNG) icon, Command Star, and Future icon. He is an Admiral,
and commander of the Enterprise-D.
As far as passing dilemmas, Riker meets the Admiral requirement of Dignitaries
and Witnesses. At a planet mission, he has Leadership, Navigation, Officer,
and Security no big surprises. In keeping with the TNG ability to
adapt to different situations, he gains a +1 increase in attributes, Diplomacy,
and Law at a space mission. The addition of Law helps you get by Formal
Hearing and Drumhead. With this version of Riker costing only two, you can
switch him out with any of the other TNG versions using Worf, First Officer.
Simply use William T. Riker, Number One for your planet mission, then switch
to Wistful Admiral when you go to space.
Since this Riker is also the commander of the Enterprise-D, you can use
all the great Commander cards like Running a Tight Ship and Mission Accomplished.
If you are using a deck with this type of focus, you can use both Jean-Luc
Picard, Starship Captain and William T. Riker, Wistful Admiral to ensure
you can use all your Commander cards. With his future icon, Riker can manipulate
your opponent's dilemma pile with Tampering with Time, or you can discard
him from hand to get back your James T. Kirk via Temporal Test Subject.
In addition, it would not hurt to use Fitting In to gain seven cunning in
space. This Riker has so many possibilities that I see him going into all
of my TNG decks.
