Star Trek CCG Tenth Anniversary Contest #10:
IDIC Dream Team
December 17, 2004 CONTEST IS CLOSED
This is it! Finally, the tenth Tenth Anniversary contest! After cooking
up contest #8 and seeing just how many versions of the TNG bridge crew there
were, I got the idea to do a final contest based on the cornerstone of Vulcan
philosophy, IDIC: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. What you
need to do is put together the most diverse "bridge crew" possible,
made up of seven "main" character cards from The Next Generation,
Deep Space Nine, and Voyager crews. (I put "main" in quotes because
I'm including a few of the major ongoing characters who nevertheless weren't
considered part of the bridge crew or ops team.) To keep the contest within
reasonable bounds, we're only going to consider Second Edition cards. (If
we included First Edition, I fear we would indeed approach an infinite number
of combinations.)
Now, what do I mean by a "diverse" crew? You want to include
as many different species, affiliations, skills, icons, and keywords
as possible, from the pool of eligible characters. Don't worry about how
you would actually get all those characters into play without running five
headquarters missions; the point is just to see how diverse a group you
could put together. There may be more than one possible, equally diverse,
answer to this puzzle I haven't worked it out. That's for you to
do!
The eligible members of the IDIC Dream Team include any Second Edition
personnel with one of the following card titles (you may include only one
version of any given character):
Jean-Luc Picard
William T. Riker
Data
Worf
Geordi La Forge
Beverly Crusher
Deanna Troi
Tasha Yar
Wesley Crusher
Ro Laren
Benjamin Sisko
Kira Nerys
Jadzia Dax
Ezri Dax
Miles O'Brien
Julian Bashir
Jake Sisko
Odo
Elim Garak
Quark
Rom
Nog
Kathryn Janeway
Chakotay
B'Elanna Torres
The three entries with the most diverse teams, as determined by the features
noted, will be awarded first through third places. In the event of a tie,
the top three places will be selected randomly from the tied entries. Fourth
through tenth places will be randomly selected from ALL complete and valid
entries received.
Each of the ten winners will receive:
One Second Edition or Call to Arms starter deck (random selection) and
three booster packs (one each of 2E Premiere, Energize, and Call to Arms).
One starter deck and three booster packs of First Edition Premiere Limited
Edition. That's not a typo. In the course of our recent office moves
we turned up a cache of Limited Edition (black-border) bundles of starters
and boosters, and decided they would make fitting prizes for the final
Tenth Anniversary contest.
Two collectible preview postcards (one each for Necessary Evil and Fractured
Time).
One First Edition Alternate Universe booster pack (who knows
you might be lucky enough to pull a UR Future Enterprise!) and one other
First Edition booster pack (random selection from First Contact, Deep
Space Nine, Dominion, Voyager, and possibly others).
In addition, the following prizes will be awarded:

1. First, select the seven members of your dream team by selecting
their names from the dropdown menus, and typing in their subtitles in
the adjacent fields. Remember, you can only have one version of each character.
Also type in the card's complete collector info (set number, rarity, and
card number), without spaces. For example, 3R165. Then add up the
numbers of different affiliations, species, skills, keywords, and icons
the seven characters possess and enter those numbers (and the total) into

A.
How many different affiliations are represented? Count Non-aligned
as an affiliation.

to represent two different species. That is, B'Elanna Torres, Worf, and
Jean-Luc Picard represent only two different species Human and
Klingon.
C.
How many different skills do these personel have? "Diplomacy"
and "2 Diplomacy" are considered the same skill. Do not count
skills that may be added by an ability or another card.
D.
How many different keywords do these personnel possess? Count
only the "constant" part of a keyword such as "Commander".
That is, "Commander: U.S.S. Enterprise-D" and "Commander:
U.S.S. Defiant" count as the same keyword, "Commander."
E.
How many different icons do these personel have? "Icons"
include Command, Staff, Deep Space Nine, Earth, Maquis, Terok Nor, The
Next Generation, Past, Future, and Alternate Universe icons. It does not
include affiliation icons or skill dots.
