Decipher Announces WARS: The Roleplaying Game
Mongoose Publishing to Produce RPG Version of Sci-Fi
Property
(Norfolk, VA January 7, 2005) Decipher, Inc. and Mongoose
Publishing have joined forces to bring the rich, sci-fi universe of Decipher's
popular proprietary trading card game, WARS TCG to tabletop
roleplaying.
Since its launch in October 2004, WARS TCG has become the
premier original sci-fi TCG with its rich setting, stunning artwork and
powerful game engine. Continuing in this vein, Decipher and Mongoose will
launch WARS: The Roleplaying Game an extensively supported,
self-contained, high-production-value RPG line to realize the potential
of this unique and original setting for tabletop gamers.
"We are extremely honored to have Mongoose involved in bringing the WARS:
The Roleplaying Game to life," said Decipher Games' CEO Warren Holland.
"Mongoose has an impressive track-record in creating great roleplaying titles
and we are pleased to have their expertise and commitment to give our fans
a new WARS gaming experience".
Based on the property created by Decipher, the WARS universe
tells the story of the conflict between three sides of a splintered humanity
400 years into Earth's future. The Earthers are corporate and militaristic
but still cling to the ideals of reuniting its peoples. Much of the Asian
population of Earth left for Mars and renamed it Gongen. The Gongen people
are spiritual and reflective but will fight fiercely for their newfound
freedom. The Mavericks represent the humans that are rebellious, experimental
and in some cases criminal. They have left the inner solar system and populate
various moons near Jupiter. Into this mix, a rift opens near the asteroid
belt and a mysterious and conquering race known as the Shi pull their entire
planet through, while being pursued by a monstrous, four-legged race called
the Quay.
"WARS: The Roleplaying Game will allow players to put themselves
anywhere into this conflict that they wish," said Chuck Kallenbach, WARS
Brand Manager for Decipher. "Our TCG players have shown a great deal of
interest in the story. We've received hundreds of pieces of fan fiction
already. These are players who will make great game masters in a roleplaying
setting for WARS."
Alexander Fennell, CEO of Mongoose Publishing, explains, "Decipher's WARS
TCG has emerged as one of the most notable sci-fi properties of 2004,
and we are delighted to be involved in extending this exciting and original
game into tabletop roleplaying. Following our successes with Babylon5,
Conan, Judge Dredd and Lone Wolf, we are thrilled to
add Decipher's WARS to our roster to give gamers the chance
to experience their favourite game-universe in the RPG format."
WARS: The Roleplaying Game will utilize the industry standard
d20 system. A core book is scheduled for release in early Summer 2005. For
