FIRE ALARM
Rich Loftus
FRIDAY 3:30PM -
It was 7am this morning and Maarten Logghe stood in the hotel
parking wondering what the heck was going on. A lot of the
people who were standing around looked worse than he did.
An early morning fire alarm is a great leveler. No one was
out there in their underwear, thank heavens. Anyway, Maarten
had that "Con look" that says he's stayed up most of the night
tweaking and testing his deck and going over the deck list
for the fourth time. But he's a cool guy. He was laughing
when someone shouted down from the stair well that it was
a false alarm. And he's 3-0 at the moment. On fire, as it
were.
The Young Jedi semifinals, or Day Two, or whatever, began
and there assembled was an awesome sight. Almost a dozen women
had qualified, making this the largest group of women ever
to qualify for a World Championship event. This year, Roxanne
Barbour was the only woman to qualify for Star Trek CCG. No
one for Star Wars CCG, for the fifth year in a row. Congratulations
to these players. Irina Nepevna leads all Young Jedi qualifiers
after four games in Day Two.
Meanwhile, the afternoon kicked off with a seminar introducing
Digital Deck. We'll have more on that later, but here's a
comment to chew on, from Brian Tadlock, a Trek player from
Iowa and one sixth of the "Big Goodbye" Team that
bludgeons opponents to death:
"The best thing is that you can pick out 6 Missions,
highlight them all, one, whatever, and all the Personnel that
you own who can contribute to solving those Missions appear
on the screen. The filtering is awesome. "
Okay. That's not all he said, but that's the teaser.
More later. Take care, it's really nice here, and we miss
you.
