Top 5 Good Things About the New Semester (only did a “bad” list because of #4, as the only reason I was even online at that time was because I had missed physics and had over an hour until Chem and needed something to do)

1. Fun classes (I spend all day every day in the science building, and I think I’ll enjoy everything this semester; especially Genetics)
2. I learned that I could graduate in 3 years instead of 4. (probably won’t, by choice, but it was a great stress reliever)
3. New Meal-plan. (I can now get these “to go” meals and count it on my meal plan, which means better food overall, and a rapid meal if I need one)
4. A room to myself. (my roommate transfered, and did so late enough that the school didn’t know his half of my room would be empty, and thus haven’t replaced him)
5. Playing Assassin’s Creed. (love that game, pissed that I got it for Christmas, left my Xbox here over break, and couldn’t get it back until school started)

Top 5 Things (Good) about re-deploying to Iraq. (Which I will be doing early sumer)

1. More money.
2. Lots of free time to play Fight Klub (as long as they ship to APO addresses)
3. 2 months in Iraq and your standards will go DOWN, so mid tour leave is GREAT!
4. I actually get to do my job (instead of sitting on my ass all the time)
5. Did I mention all the extra money I will be making?

Topic: Gang Name Email - Feedback / "Themeing" Your Gang

Here, this is what I’m talking about.

No matter what I think The Brotherhood should be about, I have no say in the matter. Being the only unofficially “official” member, anything Shuper decides to do with his gang completely outranks any ideas I might have.

To save time, I’m just not going to throw any ideas at him in the first place. Even if the rest of the FK community prefers my idea, my ideas would be polluting Shuper’s idea of the gang. And since it is Shuper’s gang, and not my own, I (and everyone else) would be doing a disservice to Shuper’s enjoyment of the game if we participated in the theme-ation of a gang not our own.

I’m not even going to say whether I like Shpuer’s idea or not, lest I inadvertently sway him from what he wants to do. (gah, you have no idea what it’s like, being an opinionated chatterbox like myself and trying to stay your tongue…)

Yep, you can check page 3 up there. It shows a list of vs match-ups.

Whatever we turn it into (adding/banning animated characters, be they hand drawn or CGI, anime or video game, or even stretching into novels/comics/plays), the initial premise was movie heroes vs movie villains (making the obvious stretch into TV shows to pick up the “Jack Bauer” or heroes from Heroes, etc, even though such characters are not currently present).

It’s entirely possible we’ll expand the vision of the game, but the initial setup did not include video game characters. It was restricted to what could loosely be described as “real characters”.

As the only Founding Mentor to publically declare themselves as part of The Brotherhood, I am able to tell you that The Brotherhood is not just a group of people who get along, but also a gang of Secrets. I am also allowed to tell you that whatever happens in The Brotherhood, stays in The Brotherhood. Like a family, we don’t always see eye to eye, and have our disagreements. But those disagreements will never spill out into an arena where those who are non-initiates would be present. If anyone attempts to coerce a Brother, by any means, into breaking his oath to his Brothers, they will be dealt with by The Brotherhood.

Actually kinda more on-topic, I’ve had a few ideas, but I’m not sharing them until the site comes up. I want to share the ideas I like with my gang, so that only my gang can use them. Also, I’m not going to touch other gangs with a 39 1/2 ft pole if I can avoid it. This is probably the one place I’m not going to actively participate in the overall image of FK. There are 13 gangs. That’s 13 different “themes”. I’m just one person, so I’ll contribute my part to one theme. The other 12, well, I want the people of those 12 gangs to surprise me. I’m not going to be in those gangs, and don’t have a 30 day period with which to get to know all the gangs before joining them. Quite frankly, I don’t care what the themes of other gangs are. I mean, I see “Dark Lotus” as more of a “ninja” type gang. But they could just as well be “evil botanists”. I would personally prefer the ninja theme, but it’s not my gang, so it doesn’t really matter. It won’t change who I am and what my gang does. And if they want to be evil botanists, I shouldn’t be trying to convince them otherwise. It’s their gang, not mine.

All things considered, I can’t wait for the 13 themes to flesh out, but at the same time, I’m not going to help with most of it, because I don’t want things that have nothing to do with me to be influenced by me, you know? It’s like, it’s none of my business, so I’m not going to make an effort to make it my business.

I wasn’t going to say anything, and then I saw that you were here when it happened. If it weren’t for the fact that at some point in previous history you know that wasn’t accurate, I wouldn’t have brought it up again.

And yeah, September does seem like a long time away. I had a class that ended in October (halfway through the fall semester), and especially with it being the beginning of the spring semester, that seems ages away.

I, for one, intend to work on a system for the gang I’m in (I’d really like a “council” type system, where small groups take on jobs that might traditionally be applied to a single person).

Past that, I’m not going to touch anything. I have ideas on what I’d like other gangs to do, but I’m not sharing them. I have no intentions of being in The Brotherhood, so I don’t want them using my ideas to build their gang. I want them to build their own gang. The gangs will be a little more different if the groups that build the gangs are entirely separated.

I think the “Red Dragon/Red Wizard” system might be useful (although obviously needs some retooling), but the intent there was to rank people across gangs. So that when you go up against someone from another gang, you know where you stand. But that should probably relate more to skill than anything else. (which can be tracked if D doesn’t change their tournament plans) So a skill level 2 knows if his opponent is a skill level 4. (the “color” in the “Red Dragon” system) The only purpose of the second half of your “rank” was to denote gang. (ie, Dragon and Wizard aren’t in the same gang)

As far as in the gang, I think the “Red Dragon/Red Wizard” system should be ignored entirely. Gangs need to build themselves. Not be built by others. The “RD/RW” system was meant to bridge the gap (and I guess that accounts for a touch of the absurdity)

I know there was another thread, but this a whole new bunch of ideas so i figured i’d start a new one.

After reading through all this discussion and thinking about it a bit I’ve been wondering how players from other gangs (or your own gang really) would be able to know the ranking system/hierarchy for the gangs. Forums obviously wouldn’t work (imagine trying to keep THAT organized) unless the moderators would handle it and update them consistently. (a tough chore I would bet, updating 13 pages like weekly or monthly even)

Now, I’m pretty sure D said they would have a ratings page on the new site, where you can view the top players from every gang. (i remember because we were discussing a while back about how to record the games in a way that would enable D to keep an accurate ratings system. i just cant find the page…) so why not a Hierarchy page too? the gangs could submit the names they choose, and the method of ranking (one gang might want the members with the most LOSSES in front, others might choose promotions based on things other than wins and losses. (like The Brotherhood’s top members get promoted based on being the most loyal to their gangmates. Or Wild Card’s members get promoted based on being the most wacky.)

with these things in mind, it would make it easy for D to do (maybe not Wild Card’s) and any changes the gang as a whole might want to make could be done on the forums. This would also bypass the “Red Dragon/Red Wizard” system which I thought sounded kinda silly (sorry) because the Hierarchy is right there for people to look at. (another AWESOME point. top members can upload their pictures next to the “leaderboards” as a reward for being on top. (imagine the possibilities for Wild Cards!!!)

focusing in on Wild Cards a bit more…they could hold elections/voting thing on the forums where every entry into the election posts a picture of themselves wearing something crazy at an event onto the forums for voting on lead members. (that’s IF they want to go that way)

this would even improve on “themeing your gang” and spice things up with in-gang competition for the top spots. i figured if your still reading your interested, so I’ll throw up some ideas just like in “themeing your gang”

THE BROTHERHOOD -based on whoever demonstrates the most “loyalty” to other gang members

SOCIETY OF SHADOWS -darkest, shiftyist, scaryiest guy. (or what about win PERCENTAGE) doesn’t play much, but wins all the time? (kinda like a ninja)

WILD CARDS -awesome. craziest individuals get the top spots.

THE ENLIGHTENED -most sage-like (or most intelligent, depends on what you want.) (this could get bad though…your last! you’re the dumbest!)

yeah, uh. tough to think of them now…but I’m betting it would be easier to do once gang personalities develop. or maybe i don’t have as many good ideas as i think i do! anyways these are just alternatives to wins and losses ratings.

P.S…I hope people won’t think im trying to control the way this is gonna go or im trying to be the center of it all. I’m just offering up my ideas and thoughts of the way i think it would be cool to go. thats it!

Results for 9/17 were about half a day’s worth of votes.

I personally like Advent Children better, and I see how that being a movie might work. I was not aware however of the statement about “real” characters, to me it seems semi counter intuitive, considering the whole premise is the heroes and villains YOU want duking it out, and I think there are quite a few video game or CG video characters that fall into peoples favorites.

Well that’s the thing. still images from Spirits within look pretty real. The animation however, does not, in a lot of places.
Most of the flaws lie with the animation, rather than the character modelling…

And of course, there were the backgrounds to think about too…

I wouldn’t care. Well, I say that, but for instance, pulling an image direct from a comic book (or manga for that matter) would be jarring even to me. But I guess that’s a matter related to the quality of drawings more so than anything else.

I know the focus has been on Anime in these discussions, but that’s not really the point. I’m not too worried about wether we’re talking Japanese, American, Russian, English, or whatever styles…
Obviously, some things would be stand out more than others…

actually I’m curious if all the anime folks would be happy to have say DC comic’s Lobo in (who actually was in a…I think 10 minute movie at one point so we could actually get a live action version of…) or any other random comic character from the US. There are millions of awesome ones who would fit just as well as anime folks and frankly tons I’d vote for before any anime characters. (Though I’d prefer neither.) Would you mind having both American and Japanese drawings in?

Not many, But I’ll list what I’ve already managed to deduce:

It’s unfortunately not that easy to trace these things, because it relies on being able to see the date/time a post was made (not possible with posts less than about 3 days old – and this is carried over when I copy the posts, for instance)
Furthermore, because the post total is the same for every post, it also relies on people posting their total within the message itself…

I think so. That change was made before Christmas, when in some of the updates/news or something someone referred to her as “The Good Witch”. (I think she might have called herself that, claiming who she was trying to be, or felt like with the good news, and we, being the forum we are, ran with it; so now it’s like, “official”)

The “stop/refuse” people are morons. Either they are hypocrites, or we won’t have to put up with them anyways.

As I’ve said somewhere around here, I could easily see FK being “animated only” (catering to comics, anime, other cartoons, and video games). Given the thoughts of “The Terminator vs Jason” or “Freddy Krueger vs Blade” or “Godzilla vs Charlie’s Angels” or “King Leonidas vs Magneto” or “Hannibal Lecter vs Dr. Evil”, animation just doesn’t fit in. I like the basic outline Decipher has thought up, and personally, don’t want to alter it.

Adding in animated characters, for me, would be like getting a box of chocolates, and finding out that this brand of chocolates includes that one evil one with toothpaste in it. I don’t mind toothpaste (when the time comes to need toothpaste), but I sure as hell don’t want any in my chocolate. Just doesn’t feel right.

Rest assured, despite my opposition to the addition of animation to FK(tion…), I’m not going to go out of my way to sabotage the rest of you from getting characters in. I might whine and complain a bit, but in the long run, I’m not going to let one oddball I don’t like (hmmm, maybe “coconut” would have been a better flavor than “toothpaste”, lol) prevent me from enjoying my box of chocolates. I have no problem checking a box that says “no toothpaste for me, please”, but going past that (no matter what I think should happen) is just mean.

Shoot, I might cave if the right character came along. (one that is worth breaking my own train of thought for; Samurai Jack comes to mind, but I’m not positive I’d give in for even him)

And yeah I know about the uncanny valley, however spirit’s within wasn’t that realistic frankly. It was good but there were only a few parts that made them look real. shrugs
