What's your favorite, most exciting
challenge you've encountered in creating art for Jedi Knights?
Dash Rendar's Outrider and the Millennium Falcon always have been among
my favorite vehicles, and I am proud that I had the opportunity to help
recreating them. Especially on the Outrider - I had a lot of freedom,
because good reference material is pretty rare.
How does the original Trilogy compare to Episode
1?
I think I have grown too old to really like it as much as the original
trilogy, but it is still a great movie. I like the fact, that it is
more obvious now, that Mr. Lucas was inspired by good stories. It is
more like an homage to Ben Hur, for example.
What inspired you to begin 3-D
modeling? How long have you been a modeler?
I am a 3-D modeler now for about 3 years. I'm less inspired by any 3-D
artwork, than by "the golden age" of special effects, which of course
includes the original Star Wars trilogy and all the great work
done by ILM in the '80s. Today, with advances in computer aided design,
the possibilities are enormous, but the charm is often gone somehow.
Imagine - you're with the love of your life,
in a tender, romantic moment. The phone rings. It's George Lucas. He
says, "Drop everything and come to Skywalker Ranch!" What do you do?
"George, can I call back later?"
