The Healing Power of Minas Tirith
by Geoff Snider
The
fellowship, while waylaid and wandering, was devoid of Gandalf's companionship
and support. Losing their leader to the shadow of Moria, only Aragorn's
guidance and the stubbornness of Boromir held them to their course. Boromir's
dying wish, to see the White City of Minas Tirith liberated from under the
looming visage of Mordor, finally swayed Aragorn to his cause. The Citadel
of Minas Tirith represents the headstrong drive of the men of Gondor,
and a steadfast dedication to their cause.
There
are essentially two ways to use the Citadel of Minas Tirith. The first is
the path of direct conflict. Aragorn and Boromir can fight their way through
the site path with battle events like Banner
of the White Tree, Sentinels of Numenor, Swordarm of the White Tower,
and Dagger Strike. The men of Gondor can take on and defeat almost any minion
(and sometimes two) single-handed... or with some help. Boromir, Son of
Denethor can combine his efforts well with Merry, Friend to Sam to wipe
out even the Balrog. Even the Blade of Gondor can be brutally effective
in assisting him against the Uruk-hai. Aragorn, Ranger of the North can
take on four minions by himself, or even more with the help of Arwen and
The Choice of Luthien. Defeating all those minions with a few power events
may prove difficult, but surely it's possible. Just remember that the 'Citadel'
rewards only victory in battle.
The
other viable way to utilize the Citadel of Minas Tirith is to incorporate
cards into your deck that ensure your companions and allies won't have to
participate in skirmishes. Despite obvious card choices like A Ranger's
Versatility, Aragorn's Bow (and other directed archery), the Blade of Gondor,
and Power According to His Stature, lesser cards may achieve similar goals.
Aragorn and We Must Go Warily can get the job done nicely, Gondor
Bowmen can be saved in multiples to give a critical boost of archery
when it's most needed, and the Mirror of Galadriel will ensure that your
opponent has fewer cards to stop you over all. This second option for playing
the 'Citadel' is much more appealing to the 'control' player, while the
first option will appeal to a broader group. Both types, however, are attempting
the same goal; reach the White City and claim victory.
