How To Use Decipher's Message Boards

Decipher's Message Board (BBS) registration/password system is something you'll like a lot. It's easy to use, and lets you be accountable for your actions and words on the Message Boards .

How the System Works
Decipher's registration/password system is based on two personal identifications. The first is your User Handle; the second, a personal Password. They are the things you'll need to sign on and use the Message Boards (think of the BBS as the Message Boards from now on).

People who don't want to register (and sign-in), and those who are banned, can still visit the Message Boards and read posts, but they cannot post messages themselve.

Every Message Board user must first choose their own unique User Handle. Choose a handle that you won't ever forget. Gosh, it could even be your name! Duplication is not allowed, and nobody else can use your handle once it is registered and maintained through regular use.

At the moment you register your User Handle successfully, your password will be assigned and emailed to you. Then you are ready to sign-in and begin to use the Message Boards.

Advance Information (Setting Up Your Browser)
On the Registration page, you can check the "Remember Me" feature. This allows a "cookie" to be set on your machine, that will be recognized every time you come to this area of the site (as long as you have not signed out). Do this and you won't have to enter your user handle and password each time. If you are using your own personal computer system, please, take advantage of this feature. It will make your Message Board use so much easier. If you use a school, library or cybercafe connection, please don't use this feature.

"Remember Me" won't work if your Web browser is set to reject cookies, and will give you an error message. So, re-set your preferences.

In Internet Explorer, from the menu at the top of your monitor screen, choose Edit, and from the pulldown, Preferences. From the pop-up menu, choose Receiving Files (Cookies). Allow cookies to be set.

In Netscape Navigator, from the menu at the top of your monitor screen, choose Edit, and from the pulldown, Preferences. From the pop-up Categories menu, choose Advanced. Click twice on Advanced and a second pop-up will appear giving you options that allow cookies to be set.

Message Board Registration

From now on, this is what you'll see at the top of
each BBS page if you are not signed in.

If you are using the system for the first time, you would click on the "register now" option, as shown above. If you have registered and have your password, choose the "sign in" option.

If you have chosen the "register now" option, on the registration page, please enter your personal information completely and correctly - you must give your correct email address.

Make up a challenge question, something you could never forget the answer to ("My mom's name?"), then answer it..

On the right hand side of the registration page is information about your "challenge question."

Don't get all wacky about this. It's just a way of putting an extra piece of information in your file in case you forget your password. Then, you can ask for the challenge question on the BBS sign-in page, answer it, and get your password back in nothing flat.

Once you've completed the message board registration you send it to Decipher.

If you have filled in every necessary piece of information you will go to a page that says registration successful. Use the back button on that page - you'll go back to the BBS.

Then go to your email, open your In Box, and you should already have received a message titled "Your Decipher BBS Login Information" from mbadministrator@decipher.com. It contains your password and some "how to use" information. Copy or write down your password and save the mail, and return to your Web browser and the BBS page.

Just one more step
You're not yet signed in, so choose the "Sign In" option, and enter your User Handle and the password. Submit the information, and you will go to a second page where you can complete your registration for good.

On this page, you can replace the password given you by Decipher with a password of your own choice. Please do this. You are much more likely to remember a password that you create.

Enter your password information, and activate the "Remember Me" button so that you will be free of having to sign in each time you post. Again, if you have disabled cookies on your computer this will not work.

Then choose the "Finish" button and your sign-up is final. Enjoy posting!

This appears at the top of each BBS page once you are signed in.
Notice the sign-out option at right.

Sign-Out
If any one other than you - roommate or brother or sister - uses your computer and has access to the Decipher Message Boards, please remember to sign-out, so that they can sign-in under their own handle and password.

No one should use the Remember Me feature from a computer that isn't their own.

Another person could simply go to the Message Boards, would be welcomed as you (the program and the machine don't know any better), and could get you in a lot of trouble. You are responsible for whatever is posted under your User Handle and Password. The sign-out option is clearly posted on every BBS page. No excuses.

Tips, Odds and Ends
If you wish to reserve a second User Handle, there is a 60 minute delay before you can do so.

Please sign-in to the message boards within 14 days of registration or your registration will expire, and with it, your exclusive rights to your User Handle.

You do not need to register separately for the different Decipher Message Boards. , if you use different handles for different games.

After your first sign-in, you must sign-in to the message boards at least once every 90 days or your password (and exclusive rights to User Handle) will expire.

When signing in to the message boards, spell your user handle and password exactly as they appear when you first used them, paying close regard to spaces. Entry is not case sensitive.

Please don't share your password with others. You are responsible for posts made in your name, period.
