Decipher Announces Its Next Move
for the Star Trek™ CCG Universe
Decipher's Trading Card Game Studio announced today that the next Star
Trek card product to come from Decipher will be a Second Edition for
the original Star Trek CCG.
Star Trek CCG is one of the oldest and most stable games in the
trading card game category. It has a rich history with an assured seat among
the top ten most popular games, continuing to live on as many new games
have come and gone from store shelves and game tables. Now, we are about
to enhance the game's fortitude by introducing a new edition, with new gameplay
and a stronger community with Star Trek CCG Second Edition.
With Second Edition, we will enable current players of Star Trek
CCG to continue using the First Edition cards they have cherished for so
long by continuing to make cards for that format. At the same time, the
Second Edition will do something that has never occurred before in the Star
Trek CCG universe — it will give new players (and old players alike)
a totally new beginning for Star Trek CCG without having to accumulate
cards from all the previous sets. To do this we will have to change the
way the game is played. The cards themselves will be similar, but will include
new components that are required for Second Edition play. As such, First
Edition cards will not be compatible with Second Edition rules, but many
Second Edition cards will be compatible with the original game, allowing
players to continue playing First Edition, with a continual stream of new
cards. Allowing some Second Edition cards to "play backwards," the mechanics
will continue to bring new strategies and tactics to the First Edition game
while bringing the Star Trek universe a new life for players who
are looking for a new way to discover its depth and strategy.
For those of you who are fans of the new Star Trek Trading Card
Game currently in development in our TCG Studio, we want you to know we
are still working on this project. We are merely putting the design process
on the backburner for the time being in order to focus our designers' attention
on the Second Edition of the classic game. We do appreciate the time you
have taken to playtest the new game and all the feedback you have provided.
