STAR TREK Customizable Card Game: Second
Edition
Scheduled to Launch in 2002
New Edition Introduces Fresh Starting Point, Streamlined
Gameplay
(Norfolk,
VA, October 2, 2002) Decipher announced today that a Second Edition
to the STAR TREK Customizable Card Game (CCG) will release just prior
to the film premiere of STAR TREK NEMESIS on December 13, 2002.
Introducing the largest CCG expansion set in company history, including
over 400 cards, STAR TREK CCG: Second Edition will feature many cards
from this highly anticipated STAR TREK film.
While a significant portion of the first release for Second Edition will
be compatible with the current edition, expanding the way the game is played,
the game itself is experiencing a major overhaul. Second Edition will do
something that has never occurred before in the STAR TREK CCG universe:
it will allow new players to play on a totally level playing field with
players who've been playing the CCG for years.
The cards featured in the Second Edition set will have a similar template
to the original game but will include new elements that are only applicable
to the new game. This will allow the Decipher game designers to continue
to introduce new strategies and mechanics to the STAR TREK CCG for
many sets to come.
"With the improvements and refinements we're planning, new players will
be able to pick up and learn this game very quickly. Plus, we're going to
present players with four decks from which to base their new strategies
right off the bat. This will provide incredible variety to the game right
from the beginning," said Decipher game designer Evan Lorentz, referring
to the Romulan, Klingon, and two Federation starter decks being released
with the base set.
Lorentz summarizes a few additional changes, which will be introduced
to the game with Second Edition, "The removal of the 'seed phase,' the set
up of the game, is another major improvement. This will significantly reduce
the time it takes players to get started. In addition, the new cards will
have a stronger, more unique 'flavor,' and mission-solving will become much
more interactive. Another noteworthy, new element is that the cards will
now have resource costs associated with them, allowing for a balance in
the cards of different power levels."
"There are reasons why the game has lasted this long and Decipher
is about to relaunch and reintroduce the game to a host of new players by
introducing new cards, new gameplay and a stronger community with STAR
TREK CCG: Second Edition," said Sean Smallman, Decipher STAR TREK
brand manager.
Following the initial base set, Decipher will release subsequent expansions
every four months beginning in May 2003. These sets will explore the people,
places, and events featured in Enterprise, STAR TREK the original
series, STAR TREK: VOYAGER, and all of the films, in addition
to more selections from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and
STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE.
