Contest #1: Holodeck Adventures Top 3
Holodecks, holosuites, holographic characters, and holoprograms have played
many major and minor roles in the Star Trek The Next Generation, Deep
Space Nine, and Voyager series, as well as all three of the "24th century"
Star Trek movies. So the designers had an abundance of material from
which to select the cards to be included in the Holodeck Adventures expansion
so much material, in fact, that they had to make some hard choices. Should
they include more episodes, with fewer cards from each one, or concentrate on
some of the most memorable episodes, with more cards for each chosen theme?
And how many cards should come from any given episode?
For our first Holodeck Adventures contest, see if you can guess which three
episodes yielded the most holodeck-related cards for this expansion. Here are
the guidelines:
- For purposes of this contest, holodeck-related cards include holographic
characters and equipment; non-holographic personnel playing a part in a holoprogram
(such as Data as Sherlock Holmes); and missions, sites, dilemmas, events,
incidents, etc. that are directly related to holographic projection, holoprograms,
and holodeck occurrences. A ship or facility with a holodeck would not be
considered holodeck-related unless the ship played an integral part in the
holographic nature of the episode (such as the Olarra).
- A two-part episode (e.g., Flesh and Blood, Parts I and II) counts as one
episode for this contest. Likewise, each movie counts as one episode. But
two separate episodes that happen to involve the same holoprogram (e.g., Janeway's
Gothic holo-novel) count as different episodes.
The Answers
1. Flesh and Blood (Parts I and II) - 13 cards
2. Our Man Bashir - 10 cards
3. A Fistful of Datas - 6 cards
The Winners
221 valid entries were received, with only seven people having all three correct
answers. The most common incorrect guesses were The Big Goodbye, Bride of Chaotica!,
and Elementary, Dear Data. Congratulations to our three randomly selected winners,
who will each receive 10 packs of Holodeck Adventures:
John Getty (Williamsburg, VA)
Matthew Zinno (Sharon, MA)
Katja van der Kamp (Holwierde, The Netherlands)
