DEATH STAR II LAUNCH DAY:
The Circle Is Now Complete

by Geert Van Slambrouck, Red 44

I was on the Star Wars CCG Palace last night. when I suddenly realized - today's a day for which I've been waiting five years.

I remember reading the first announcement in a gaming magazine in April 1995:

Decipher Inc., maker of the best selling Star Trek CCG, has acquired the license to create a customizable card game based on the Star Wars Trilogy by George Lucas.

I was a bit sceptical about this announcement, as 1995 was the year of 100 new card games (to my knowledge 99 are no longer around). And at that moment the wait seemed extremely long until December, when I was to buy my very first pack of Star Wars CCG. I opened my first pack and pulled a Solo Han.

Over these past five years we've been on quite a ride: no less than 9 full sets have brought us here. Looking at the evidence, we have to say that Lando was wrong, because, "This Deal Was Getting Better All The Time."

There have been issues....some strategies were too strong, and others were too weak, and more.

But I know that the next tournament I visit I will see all of the following:

Luke will be playing around on Tatooine.
Princess Leia will be rescued from the first Death Star by Luke.
That same Luke will blow up that Death Star.
Players will establish a secret base on Hoth.
And some Dark Side players will blow up the Shield Generator.

The Light Side players will be Jedi Testing
Some people will see their characters frozen by Carbon Chamber Testing
Some people may do that themselves to free them
Endor will be played back and forth
And Luke will give himself up as Vader's prisoner.
There will be some duelling from both sides.

best of all is the one thing that these five years have lead to:

Emperor Palpatine will oversee it personally.

This has all truly been one Special Edition.

Thank you, Decipher.
