Enhancements to Young Jedi Lightsaber Dueling Rules

Effective June 1, 2001, the Lightsaber Dueling Rules for Young Jedi will be changed. We make these changes to create new opportunities for dueling decks featuring Jedi and Sith characters (and Aurra Sing) for the current gameplay environment.

These changes will be included in a new version of the official FAQ document published for that date. We are taking the unusual step of announcing the changes early so that players may retool their decks for the rest of the championship season.

The State, Provincial, and National Championships end on May 31 and the World Championship Open Qualifiers begin on June 1.

The changes to the Lightsaber Dueling rules are summarized below.

When you initiate a duel, you may choose any of the opponent's characters at the current location to defend. That character does not have to be a dueling character. If your opponent has a dueling character at the same location, then your opponent may choose that character to defend instead.

Since all kinds of characters may now be required to fight in a duel, two extra rules are necessary.

When Anakin Skywalker has to fight in a duel, draw destiny for his power (don't forget to add in all his bonus dots) and put that card in your hand before you put your hand face down on the table and draw your dueling hand.

When a character with printed DAMAGE of 0 has to fight in a duel, simply discard that character. (Sorry, Artoo.) Don't even draw dueling hands...the duel is immediately over.

Please remember that these rule changes do not take effect until June 1, 2001.
